Acute Trauma
Counselling for acute trauma provides vital support, helping individuals navigate overwhelming experiences. Through empathetic listening and evidence based techniques, counselling can help facilitate healing and resilience. Clients process emotions, develop coping strategies, and regain a sense of control. Timely intervention can prevent long-term complications, fostering recovery and restoring hope amidst distress.
Anxiety & Depression
Counselling addresses anxiety and depression by providing a safe space for exploration and healing. I use evidence-based techniques to identify triggers, challenge negative thought patterns, and cultivate coping skills. Through empathetic support and psychoeducation, clients can gain resilience and hope, creating a path towards recovery and improved mental well-being.
Addiction
Counselling tackles addiction by fostering self-awareness, addressing underlying issues, and developing coping strategies. We will explore triggers, learn techniques to modify behaviours, and promote sustainable recovery. Through empathetic support and accountability, individuals gain tools to start addressing issues without reaching for the crutch of a substance, and slowly can start to rebuild their lives, achieving long-term sobriety and well-being.
Bereavement
Bereavement counselling offers solace to those grieving loss. Counselling provides a safe space to explore and express the many different, and sometimes difficult, emotions arising from grief. Through empathetic listening and coping techniques, individuals find comfort and resilience when navigating the stages of grief. Guided support can assist healing, enabling the bereaved to adjust to this new phase of life.
Coping With Stress
Counselling aids in managing stress by offering practical strategies and emotional support. Clients learn to identify stressors, develop coping mechanisms, and build resilience. Through active listening and tailored interventions, counselling empowers individuals to regain balance and enhance well-being. Effective stress management creates healthier lifestyles and improved mental health outcomes.
Low Self-esteem
Counselling tackles low self-esteem by challenging negative beliefs, building self-compassion and fostering self-belief. Counselling provides a supportive space to explore underlying causes, develop healthier perspectives, and practice assertiveness. Through evidence-based techniques and validation, individuals regain confidence, recognise their worth, and cultivate a positive self-image, fostering personal growth and fulfilment.

Over the years, I have gained valuable experience and training in bereavement and trauma. I am a volunteer counsellor for the Road Victims Trust dealing with bereavement and trauma following road traffic collisions. I am extremely passionate about my volunteer work as my belief is that it is always important to give back to society where possible. Being committed to ongoing continuing professional development (CPD) ensures my knowledge and skills remain up to date and lend themselves to supporting clients with a broad range of issues and concerns.
My Training and Qualifications:
- BACP Certificate of Proficiency
- Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
- Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Psychodynamic Theory and Skills
- Registered Veterinary Nurse of 25 Years.
Counselling Support Tailored for Veterinary Professionals
In my 25th year as a veterinary nurse, I’ve also specialised in counselling, specifically for veterinary professionals, acknowledging the unique stresses of the industry. My authorship of "Practical Cardiology for Veterinary Nurses" and role as President of the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) underscore my dedication to veterinary care and professional development. My unique position enables me to offer comprehensive support, blending clinical insights with emotional guidance to help veterinary professionals navigate their challenges.
This dual expertise enriches my counselling approach, fostering a healthier, more resilient veterinary community through empathy, knowledge, and leadership.
Accreditation
As a proud member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I hold a deep respect for the profound impact that counselling can have on lives, families, and communities. The BACP stands as a testament to the transformative power of counselling, advocating for social justice and the betterment of mental wellbeing across the UK. Their commitment to excellence and ethical practice in the counselling professions resonates with my own philosophy of care and support.
With my BACP Certificate of Proficiency, I am not just a counsellor; I am a part of a larger community dedicated to changing lives through counselling. This certification is more than a symbol of professional achievement; it is a promise to my clients that I adhere to the highest standards of practice and ethics in therapy. The BACP's emphasis on research, best practice, and a robust ethical framework guides me in offering the best possible support to those in need.
What my clients have to say…
“Charlotte has been supporting me for the past year and the experience of working with her has been absolutely invaluable, and I couldn’t imagine working with a different therapist. I have learned so much about myself, and I have always felt so genuinely understood by her. She has helped me to see the themes of where things are patterns in my life and has always encouraged me to be inquisitive into the deeper areas of my life”.
Liz
Charlotte has been amazing and an integral part of my grieving process. I truly am grateful for her time… and helping me to manage and cope with everything. Truly my world has been shaken and Charlotte helped me to see the positive things in life and helped me to get back to myself. Things will never be the same but I have learned to continue. My brother will always be a big part of my heart and soul but Charlotte helped me to be the best version of me for my children’s sake and family and reminded me that I also needed to take care of myself!
RN, Bradford
I have known Charlotte for many years, both as a veterinary professional and an individual. Charlotte is deeply passionate about caring for others, capable of listening to and understanding what is being conveyed by clients (whether related to human or veterinary concerns). With many years of experience across multiple disciplines, Charlotte has demonstrated her compassion and empathy to me in a range of scenarios, whilst retaining the strictest of confidentiality and discretion when this is called for. I would not hesitate to recommend Charlotte as someone to reach out to, to meet and talk with, and to listen to you.
